Uruguay Lodge

OVERVIEW

Encouraged by the demand from guests, three years ago we began searching for a new lodge in Uruguay. The lodge we’ve partnered with is an elegant 19th century mansion which rests on one of the most beautiful estancias in the country. After an intensive restoration process this hundred- year old mansion has been returned to it’s original splendor, and updated with the modern comforts. Six grand bedrooms will accommodate up to 6 hunters in comfortable king size beds. There are fertile fields in abundance with good pastures to hunt perdiz with dogs; wide plots dedicated to agriculture for growing sunflowers, sorghum, soy, corn and wheat providing an infinite amount of food for the doves. In the area there are a large number of reservoirs and ponds, where, together with the abundance of food in the area, produce enormous concentrations of ducks, of all kinds of species. This Uruguayan is spectacular for mixed bag hunting!

HUNTING OPPORTUNITIES

Mixed bag, Ducks, Perdiz, Pigeon, Dove.

Main Duck Species:

  • Rosy-Billed Pochard.
  • White-Faced Whistling Duck.
  • Brazilian Teal.
  • Brown Pintail.
  • Speckled Teal.
  • Ringed Teal.
  • Southern Wigeon.
  • Cinnamon Teal.
  • Silver Teal.
  • Restrictions on the hunting of some species may apply, depending on the annual government regulation.

A TYPICAL DAY

A true mixed bag experience in friendly Uruguay. Alternate between ducks and perdiz each morning and experience awesome dove hunting minutes away from the lodge every afternoon. Outstanding hunting logistics for all 3 species. From 5- to 45-minute drives. The best perdiz hunting in South America and pointing dogs without peer, trained by expert dog trainer and co-owner Bernardo Barrán. More than 18 well trained dogs are available for our hunts and more than 20 years experience training dogs. Our duck hunts are easy, even for those who hate the waders and mud usually associated with waterfowl. And, our duck hunts are very productive with generous limits each morning. The biggest dove roost in all of Uruguay just minutes away from the main lodge.

The hunting and shooting here offers a variety of game that makes Uruguay a very unique destination not only in South America, but anywhere in the world. It is a rare treat for the wingshooter that hunters can enjoy the pursuit of an upland and marsh mixed bag in the same day, each and every day.

Each morning you will hunt wild partridge or perdiz in short grass pastures, and over pointers and English setters, or ducks and big wild pigeons by decoying in lagoons and ponds nearby. Every day you will drive to the perdiz fields or to the lagoons for duck and pigeon hunting and return for lunch at the lodge, or stay for a BBQ, the “asado”, done in the field by the staff.

The afternoon shoot (high volume dove shooting) will start after lunch, and will end at dusk. Each evening you will return to the lodge for cocktails and dinner. Your host and guide, as well as bird boys, will be with you to provide you with challenging shooting, and other necessities such as shotgun shells, refreshments and anything else you may need. Drive time to hunt locations is usually between 10 and 35 minutes for the perdiz, ducks or pigeon fields, and from 5 up to 35 minutes for the dove shooting.
